What we have been working on....

The past few weeks we have been working on our silk ribbon "flowers". These have been a lot of fun to make, they are very easy for our customers to make on their own with the 1 1/2 inch silk ribbon we have.
Or, if you find that you don't really want to make them yourself, we sell the hand dyed ribbon silks for $7.00 on a clippie. Not a bad deal, since the hand-dyed ribbon 1 1/2 inch strands sell $5.00 a piece.
These have been great for our customers, they LOVE them! I have heard they are similar, not even as good as  quality, as what other stores sell  (from what we have heard from our customers), and of course, at a much lower price.

Yes, it is that time of year...

It is that time of year when we are getting ready for the Park City Silly Market. The market doesn't happen until June, but we are busy getting things ready, we will be showing some new hair flair, which when you come into our store, you will be getting a glimpse of our new products. Hopefully,  we will be posting pictures  soon. I hope you get a chance to come to the market, or any of the farmer's market that happen during the summer. There are a LOT of local vendors who have great items they are selling. Did you know that 45% of the money spent on a locally bought item stays in your community vs. only 9% from a chain store?  Also, there are many local vendors that support our schools, and community. It is such an important act to support all the small locally owned vendors in your area, and what a better way to get introduced to them than through a Farmer's Market? Find out more information at www.localfirst.org

I will post dates and also a promotion about when we will be up there, but, yes, on these wind blowing, cooler spring days, that is what were are up to .....getting ready for market.

Brown Lace!! Finally!

Yes, we are The Lace Place, however we are more of a ribbon store than lace. People ask us all the time, why ARE we The Lace Place, when there is more ribbon than lace? When this store started in the mid-eighties, they sold lace, lots of it! When it changed hands, in the mid nineties, there was still lots of lace, however, ribbon was becoming more and more popular! When I opened this store, GULP! almost 5 years ago, ribbon, was it! Sure, few people still wanted Lace, but really, stretch lace (which we are the ONLY store in Utah, and possibly the midwest, who sales stretch, by the yard.) We have focused on providing, exceptional ribbon and and stretch, to our customers, at a very reasonable cost.
Lately, though, there has been a sudden increase in lace trims, maybe because, many of the stores that use to carry laces are now gone. We have widen our selection of laces. Eyelet is available, flat or gathered. We have an array of colored one inch nylon laces, red, pink, yellow, black, blue.  We also carry ruffled sheer, white, ivory, pink and blue.  Come in, you will be surprised at what you will find.
The most difficult to find and most requested lace that has been requested since I have opened this store is brown lace. Yes, we see brown lace on clothing, but for it to be available to the consumer by the yard has been nearly impossible to find. We are very excited to offer 11/2 inch polyester flat cluney lace in chocolate brown.  It is a start, we hope you enjoy it. We do plan on expanding the selection when it becomes available.  As you can see, it is also available in black and chartreuse.
Please keep in mind that our quest in finding the right products to  fit your needs are always on our mind when ordering. That is why we love our intimate relationship with our customers. We know your needs, and we will always try to fulfill them.

EFFECTIVE APRIL 1st

Effective April 1st, we will be selling our ribbon in 1/2 and full yard increments ONLY!
We have had a problem with our inventory selling in the increments we have been and have made the decision that all ribbon will be sold in 1/2 yard and full yard increments only. This will be a better way to serve all of our customers needing ribbon with out falling, just barely short of what they need. Which is something we have seen over and over again in our store.
Please bear with us, as this will take some getting use to, but over time this will benefit all of you as well.

Thank you.

MEN....

It is always fun to help the men that come into our store. And yes, we DO have men that shop at The Lace Place. A lot of men will come in running an errand for their wife with specific instructions of what to buy. A good handful come in because they are in the design business with a distinct idea of what their needs are. I also have some that buy, simply because they like ribbon. They understand the simple idea that when a package is presented beautifully, the other person they are giving it to will appreciate the thought and gesture even more than presenting it in a plain gift bag. These customers really take their time and thought into these gifts..for their mother, wife, girlfriend and daughter. It is so refreshing to see.  Today, a father spending the afternoon with his daughter came in picking out bows for her and his unborn daughter due this spring. What a lovely thing to do for a dad to bring his daughter into this store, knowing that what she picks will make her feel beautiful!
Most of our customers are women....it is refreshing to know that there are men who are our customers and understand what we do!

Spring and Sun...Here we come!

It is really exciting to feel that spring is JUST around the corner (it really is!). We are receiving new items every week! I will post pictures of many of the items we are getting, hopefully, soon.
Headbands! We have lots of cute pre-made headbands in! Our customers are very excited to see these in our store. The prices range from $4.00-12.00...and they really are for everybody. The prices are great (they would be double or more in the mall), and the styles and colors are outstanding! We have mom's buying them for their little ones to high school girls for their proms and brides for their bridesmaids! It really is worth a  trip in to see what all the buzz is about!

Another fun product we have are the pettiskirts! The sizes for now are 2t-4t and 4t-6t! They are priced right at $25.00. They are fun to wear on their own, or you can embelish them with one of our jumbo roses and ribbon sashes. Again the prices are an easy $20.00 less than what you would find in any other boutique.

We have started carrying porcelain fairies. These are beautiful dolls that would make a great gift or an addition to any Easter basket! Your little girl will love them!

Our jewelery is a great gift idea! All of our jewelry is priced right for gift giving. With Valentines, Easter, and Mother's day around the corner, and also birthdays in between, we have great looks and styles! I love keeping our prices low, it helps us to keep our jewelery fresh and updated for all of our customers who are watching their wallet and wanting all the current styles.

These are just a few of what's new in the store. I will be posting pictures soon.

Oh yeah...did I mention ribbon? Can't wait for the spring shipment to come in! Lot's of hot bright colors this spring, mixed with subtle hues! I will post these as soon as they come in!

Beautiful Baby!!

Here is a wonderful example of the custom hair bows we make. This mother brings her babies clothes in so we can match them PERFECTLY!  These hair bows look as if the manufacturer created them along with the outfits.  This also gives you the idea of the amount of ribbon we have in our store! We can really match almost anything!

A GREAT EXAMPLE

I always tell my customers to bring their projects in when they are trying to match ribbon. I often hear, "I never knew there were so many shades of the same color!" Which a lot of times seeing so many different types of texture and colors can be very overwhelming to some.
Whether it is clothing, a sewing project, a wreath, wrapping paper, bring it in! It is so much easier to help you find exactly what you need and what will work when you bring it in.

A good example of this happened just the other day. A woman was sewing these very beautiful and unique pillows. She had some antique drawings of body parts (They really reminded me of Leonardo DaVinci type of drawings) that she was layering on top of a velour type fabric.  She came in wanting chocolate velvet ribbon to use as a border of the picture and the velour fabric.  Well, I showed her my chocolate ribbon (being right after the holidays, I was completely out of chocolate velvet, so I showed her other chocolate textures)  We soon found out that chocolate brown was NOT the color for these pillows. That color didn't compliment her picture or the fabric at all.
What we did find, was a taupe velvet, and a maroon velvet that ended up looking fantastic. When we first looked at the maroon velvet, we both didn't think it would work, being too red. However, when we put the ribbon next to everything else, it really brought out the picture and the colors and everything.  This is why this is a great example of bringing things in.  What she came in for, didn't look good. What we thought looked too red, but decided to try any way, turned out great!

It is hard to see the details in these pictures, but it really is a rich, old world, look.

I love helping people with their projects, I don't always see the final product, but they usually end up coming back in and telling me how great it turned out :)

SALE SALE SALE

We have marked down a lot of our inventory today. 50% off almost everything....We have a pretty large clearance corner. The cute Marianne Richmond Plates are $10.00-$12.00, Frames from $7.00, and many more.

A New Year, Some New things!

I am so excited of all the new things coming into our store. We will definitely be getting in a more variety of ribbons, and expand our vast variety of stretch ribbon. We will be lowering our prices on some of our hair bows.
They will be in a separate section, and not available for custom orders. We will start with single double ruffle bows at $3.50 each. Only single bows will be available for now at this reduced price, Of course the custom bows and regular ones on our wall will still be available at the normal price. We are working on them now and I will post as soon as they are available.
We will start carrying petti skirts, I am hoping to get our first shipment in next week, and some really fun ones in the newer styles by March. We will have matching bows for all of them! I am very excited for these, as they are fun for your little girls to wear and play in! Our prices will be great too, nothing like what you see at the other boutiques and online stores. Our prices will be very reasonable!
Our spring jewelry line should also be in the next few weeks, just in time to treat yourself or your mom or sister for Valentine's day!

These are just a few of the things we are looking forward too, I will post pictures and more information as soon as they are available.

It is a Garden of Flowers

As you can see by just looking around you is that flowers are EVERYWHERE.  From the very young, to the young at heart, they are the accessory to wear. We have many flowers, flowers for hair, for clothing, and purses, and even shoes! Flowers not only to wear, but also to put the finishing touch on a project created by you!
I carry a lot of hard to find flowers. Beautiful, colorful, flowers.
Our one inch rossettes with swarzoki crystals are really the perfect addition to any holiday, wedding or just as addition to an outfit.
Our roses are very popular also, ranging from 3 inches to just over 7 inches. These were VERY popular this last summer at the Park Silly Market we were at. What is nice about our roses is they are very natural and soft looking.  They can take  you from casual to dressy, very versatile.
Crocheted flowers have become very popular lately. We have 2 1/2 inch crocheted rosettes that blew out of here at Christmas time. We are getting in more colors and styles, please look for them when you come in.
The nice thing about crocheted flowers is that they add texture. They are a great look on babies and children. I had one person adorn a scarf that looked very similar to one she saw in a fashion magazine, at a fraction of the cost.
The nice thing about how we sell our flowers, is that they are sold two ways. One, on a clip or pin back for those you who like things to just be done and ready. Also, plain, so you can do what you would like to with them. Either way, you will be satisfied with how our flowers will enhance what ever it is you are creating.
We carry many more flowers than what is listed and pictured, we are always updating the styles and colors, keeping things fresh and your creativity flowing.

Happy New Year...some ribbon ideas

What I always like to do when I have a party is to use ribbon.... this year I cut a half a yard of a variety of 5/8 inch ribbon and use them as wine charms on our champagne glasses for our New Years celebration. What I like about this is that it adds a little more "WOW" to those you are serving...everyone has their own glass, and it dresses up the occasion making everyone feel extra special. I like to incorporate a variety of colors and ribbons that complement the occasion. I used a lot of golds, browns, reds, and purples for tomorrow night celebration. Try it for your next gathering, I promise...it will be a small touch that will be remembered.

Another fun thing I am doing with my kids are gingerbread cookies made into an ornament tied with a ribbon to hang on the tree. I chose a 3/8 blue haze bubble dot ribbon...more whimsical and fun for the kids, however, we are making them for the adults too. We had fun decorating each one with the persons name and the year 2010...we are going to put them on our tree, and as people leave our home for the new year they will have a small party favor to go home with.
These are just a few last minute ideas...something fun...and easy...

Stretch...S T R E T C H

Yes, we have stretch...I always get phone calls asking if we are the ones with the stretch lace for babies headbands. I sell pre-made headbands, and also by the yard so you can make them if you prefer. I have white 3/8 to 4 inch lace (ranging from 99 cents to $3.99 per yard)  These are for headbands to sewing on the ends of t-shirts, and everything in between. BUT...the grand stretch is our Euro stretch...our most popular for baby bands, and as of late teenagers also. This stretch isn't lace but a beautiful soft rousch ribbon. Our most popular by far. Moms love the way it fits on their babies head, and also how it looks, very modern....apart from the traditional stretch mentioned above.
Also new for us this month is 5/8 inch ruffled stretch..I will need to put some pictures with bows on them, but trust me, they make the most adorable bows ever!

We also carry the nylon stretch ($5.00) and the crocheted bands ($4.50).

This is our most popular Euro Stretch $5.99/yd.

Below is our NEW ruffle stretch! $2.50/yd.

Ribbons Ribbons Ribbons

Well I guess this is where I should start off...since most people know about or have heard about our ribbons. Yes, we have ribbons, not the kind you find in the big box stores, our ribbons are special, beautiful ribbons. We have almost every type you can imagine, and if it isn't in our store, we will order it in. Our sizes range from 1/16 to 5 inches in width. What is wonderful about our store is that you aren't obligated to buy what you don't want. The smallest length we sell is 1/8 of a yard, these are usually sample sizes if people need for color or texture.  So we do sell our ribbon by the yard or by the spool, if you prefer.

Colors, yes, we have many colors, I always suggest to my customers that if you are trying to match something, an outfit, a project, etc. to bring it in, or at least bring something of what you are trying to match in. It makes the whole process easier, and also, there is less running back and forth for you. Our color scheme varies greatly, I always hear from people that they never knew so many shades of pink (or blue or green, etc) existed.

Our prices are great too...ranging from 17 cents a yard on up. For example, our grosgrain prices range from 30 cents to $1.20 a yard. What is nice about our grosgrain, is that you will find the quality is nice. It isn't the cheap flimsy grosgrain you will find in other stores. Many bow makers will use the flimsy grosgrain ribbon and wonder why their bows don't look like ours. Well, that grosgrain doesn't have the body a good quality grosgrain has, it really does make a difference when you are making bows, or doing any other project. What customers like also is that we do give a 15% discount on all spools sold. So if you need a lot for a wedding, etc. there is some break in the pricing. This discount also applies for our clips, bags, etc. just talk to me about it and I can explain it in detail.
